Working on Living up to the Name

Okay, so I subtitled this blog Adventures in the Great Northwest and haven't really put any of my adventures up here. That's not to say that I haven't had any. Just this past week, my friend Victoria and I felt it was time to put our National Parks pass to good use and go up to Mount Rainier. Our original destination was Dewey Lake, but due to some unusual amounts of snow, we were unable to access the trail.
We goofed around checking out unmarked waterfalls and semi-frozen lakes for a while to make sure we hadn't missed the trail head, but eventually went down to the Sunrise Park Entrance and took an adventure to Summerland which follows Frying Pan Creek.

The hike is fairly flat and then gradually increases in altitude. We enjoyed hanging out by some of the 'falls' on the river, but eventually hit a point in the trail which was all very compacted snow. It took quite a bit of scrambling around. We had agreed that at 6:00pm we would turn around, but at when the minutes finally rolled over, we saw dirt. We were so happy to be able to walk normally again, that we had to keep going until we could see the mountain. I couldn't get a good picture of the mountain because of the evening lighting, but we were able to goof a round a bit and get back to the car before dusk.
